Job Description: Substance Abuse Educator
Position Overview:
The Substance Abuse Educator is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering substance abuse education and prevention programs within a social sciences framework, with a particular focus on psychology. The incumbent will work closely with individuals, groups, and communities to provide education, support, and resources to address substance abuse issues. The Substance Abuse Educator will play a significant role in promoting awareness, prevention, and intervention strategies to reduce substance abuse within the target population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement substance abuse education programs, workshops, and training sessions based on evidence-based practices and current research.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including community organizations, schools, and healthcare professionals, to promote substance abuse prevention initiatives.
- Conduct assessments and screenings to identify individuals at risk of substance abuse and provide appropriate interventions.
- Create and distribute educational materials, brochures, and resources related to substance abuse prevention, treatment, and recovery.
- Provide individual counseling and support to individuals struggling with substance abuse, including assessing their needs, developing treatment plans, and monitoring progress.
- Deliver presentations to different audiences, including students, parents, educators, and community groups, to raise awareness about substance abuse and its impact.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local agencies, organizations, and treatment centers to facilitate referrals and coordinate services for individuals in need.
- Stay updated on current trends, research, and evidence-based practices related to substance abuse prevention and intervention.
- Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of substance abuse education programs and make recommendations for improvements.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, assessments, and progress.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of substance abuse prevention strategies, evidence-based practices, and treatment options.
- Familiarity with social sciences theories and frameworks related to psychology and substance abuse.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse groups and individuals.
- Ability to deliver engaging presentations and facilitate discussions on sensitive topics.
- Proficient in conducting assessments and screenings to identify substance abuse risk factors.
- Empathy, compassion, and the ability to build trust and rapport with individuals struggling with substance abuse.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively plan and deliver educational programs.
- Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal regulations and laws related to substance abuse prevention and treatment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards.
- Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment is highly desirable.
